EVENT OVERVIEW

Hunter Events — one of the top ten Corporate event planners in San Francisco — planned and produced an elaborate Art Deco themed Corporate Anniversary Event. This event was held at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, California. From the moment the guests arrived, they were transported back in time to the Golden Age of glitz and glamour.

COCKTAIL AND MEAL COORDINATION

As with all corporate Company events planned by Hunter Events, the menu for this reception was carefully crafted and tailored to the Client’s specific needs. Guests enjoyed an array of hors d’oeuvres and a selection of fine cocktails throughout the evening. A variety of vegetarian dishes, a gourmet macaroni and cheese station and a slider bar delighted each guest. A mouth-watering dessert bar, complete with freshly brewed coffee, hot tea and seasonal fruit rounded out the experience.

VENUE SEARCH AND PRODUCTION

As one of the top event planning companies in San Francisco, Hunter Events puts experience and skill to the test to search and select the finest venues around the world — appropriate to the Client’s unique and specific needs. Located just a few miles from the Client’s World Headquarters, the Paramount Theatre stands as one of the finest remaining examples of Art Deco design in the United States.

Designed by renowned San Francisco architect Timothy L. Pflueger and completed in 1931, the Paramount Theatre was one of the first Depression-era buildings to incorporate and integrate the work of numerous creative artists into its architecture. Unfortunately, after its initial brief blaze of “movie palace” glory in the 1930’s, this remarkable auditorium suffered three decades of neglect and decline until it’s rescue by the Oakland Symphony, the City of Oakland and numerous private donors. A painstaking and authentic restoration was completed in 1973 and the theatre was entered in the National Register of Historic Places on August 14th of that year. The Paramount Theatre is now a National Historic Landmark.

Restored to its original splendor, meticulously maintained, and fully upgraded to modern technical standards, the theatre now serves all the arts. The Paramount Theatre is the home of the Oakland East Bay Symphony and, as one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s premiere performing arts facilities, hosts a year-round schedule of popular music concerts, variety shows, theatre, and — of course — movies.

Hunter Events’ desire to always introduce both the Client and their guests to fascinating and unique venues they may not otherwise experience, was the driving force in selecting the Paramount Theatre for this Corporate Company Event.

ENTERTAINMENT

Despite the impact of the Great Depression, the 1930s are remembered as the era of escapism and Hunter Events wanted to replicate that feeling for the guests during the Corporate Company Event. Colleagues — dressed as debonair as Hollywood stars and starlets — enjoyed hours show-stopping performances by over 30 hired entertainers.

Hunter Events not only hired a Jazz Quartet and a Deco Dancing Troupe, but also actors who were dressed as 1930’s-era “Gangsters & Cops”, dashing “Gals & Gents” and two “Cigarette Girls” who offered old-fashioned candy, boutonnieres and handmade chocolate cigars to guests throughout the event. To capture the essence of the evening, a professional photographer took guests’ photos in a custom-created Speakeasy Lounge.

The centerpieces of the evening were the extraordinary performances on the Paramount Theatre stage. To open the show, a hired organist dramatically rose from 12’ below the stage on a hydraulic lift, playing Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue” on the Theatre’s refurbished pipe organ. As the organist changed his melody, 10 Deco Dancers slowly rose from another sunken stage and performed a dance to Fred Astaire’s “Puttin on the Ritz” — the theme of the show.

EVENT IMPACT

Guests at the Corporate Anniversary Event were able to celebrate their achievements in a most unique and unforgettable way. The delectable menu items, the exquisite beverages and the non-stop entertainment impressed each and every attendee. But above all, the beauty and elegance of the remarkable Paramount Theater defined the event like none other. The Client was pleased with the venue’s hospitality, the flawless performances by over 30 entertainers and the outstanding service and event planning provided by Hunter Events.
